There is a distinct lack of tourism case studies written for Tibetan areas of China. Seven case studies on tourism sites in Tibetan areas were written for this project. To aid in comparative analysis of sites the same format has been used for each case study. Three case studies from Bhutan were also written/edited in the same format. We're also included links to other published case studies from Nepal and other Himalayan regions to provide a more comprehensive collection of case studies for teachers to utilise.
Drigung Valley is situated 2hrs from Lhasa and is currently an under developed tourism site with a range of tourism potential.
Drolma Valley is situated about 4 hours drive north of Lhasa and is interesting case of community based ecotourism development
Dropenling is an NGO funded handicraft project in Lhasa that sources traditional handicrafts from local communities.
Namtso is one of Tibet ionic tourism sites. Situated 4hrs drive north Namtso it recieves a large number of mass Tourists but is officially considered an "ecotourism site".
Sera Monastery is one of Tibet most commonly visited monasteries and recieves a very large number of tourism arrivals.
Tibet Wind Horse Adventure is a locally owned and operated travel agency in Lhasa. It was the first travel agency in Tibet to be fully set up as a private owned co-op.
